Teen Multiday Hiking Adventures In Western Australia

Real hikes. Real challenge. Real growth.

LifeTrail teen multiday hikes are genuine wilderness expeditions in Western Australia. Not programs. Not camps. Not classrooms with trees.

Teens carry full packs, live entirely on the trail, plan meals, navigate terrain, and contribute to every decision the group makes. Over multiple days in some of WA’s most remarkable landscapes, something shifts — quietly and permanently.

LifeTrail is based in Denmark, Western Australia, and offers hikes across the Great Southern, South West, and Perth Hills.

This is Not a School Camp

If you want a genuine challenge, real independence, and an adventure you’ll remember long after it’s over — this hike could be for you.

A LifeTrail hike is not simply walking over multiple days.

A LifeTrail teen multiday hike is a genuine outdoor expedition. Not a program. Not a camp. Not a classroom with trees.

Over multiple days in the wilderness of Western Australia, teenagers carry their own gear, plan their own meals, navigate real terrain, and live entirely on the trail. Everything they need for the next few days is on their back.

What happens out there — the confidence, the clarity, the friendships forged through genuine shared challenge — that is what nature and real experience produce. We simply provide the safest, most purposeful environment for it to happen.

“This isn’t a school camp — this is a real, multiday outdoor adventure you’ll remember forever.” – Dion (16)

The LifeTrail Difference

If you want a genuine challenge, real independence, and an adventure your teenager will talk about long after it is over — this is it.

A LifeTrail hike is a structured, professionally led full-pack expedition designed for teens. It meets Duke of Edinburgh Award requirements while guiding young people through challenge, responsibility, and growth in a safe, contained environment.

  • Before the hike: Participants attend live group video preparation sessions covering planning, risk awareness, and group responsibility
  • On the trail: Small groups of maximum ten with a strict 1:6 guide ratio, clear safety systems, 24/7 supervision, and organic daily reflection built into the journey

At the heart of every LifeTrail journey is Hikefulness® — the practice of slowing down, paying attention, and building resilience through nature. Teens are supported physically, and they develop the kind of quiet inner strength that carries back into school, sport, and everyday life.

What Teens Gain

For some students, stepping away from routine study can feel challenging — for parents too. Yet time in genuine nature-based outdoor experience builds foundations that support long-term success in ways a classroom cannot replicate.

Participants develop:

  • Calm decision-making in unfamiliar situations
  • Confidence built through real responsibility
  • Resilience under pressure — moving through discomfort safely and steadily
  • Emotional regulation — managing frustration, fatigue and uncertainty in a supported environment
  • Self-belief — discovering they are capable of more than they thought
  • Leadership and collaboration — contributing thoughtfully within a small team
  • Sustainable performance habits — understanding that rest, rhythm and recovery improve long-term output

The result is not just a completed hike — but greater clarity, capability and self-belief carried back into school, career and life itself. We read about it after every single hike.

What These Hikes Are

These are guided outdoor hiking experiences for teens who enjoy the outdoors, group teamwork, and taking real responsibility for themselves on the trail.

These are real hikes — not school, not programs, not camps.Over multiple days you will:

  • Walk challenging terrain carrying your full pack
  • Cook and eat meals together that you planned and purchased before the hike
  • Contribute to daily planning, navigation, and group decisions
  • Live fully on the trail — your entire physical life is in your backpack

The focus is on safety and preparedness, teamwork and respect for the hiking community, and learning through genuine outdoor experience.

What These Hikes Are Not

LifeTrail teen hikes are guided outdoor experiences. They are not disability support, therapeutic services, mentoring programs, or personal care services.

These hikes suit teens who can participate safely in a guided group setting, manage their personal care and equipment, follow instructions and make reasonable decisions with guidance, and engage respectfully with the group, the environment, and other hikers. If you are unsure whether a hike is suitable, please speak directly with Didier before making any decision. A conversation can always help clarify expectations and explore the best way forward.

You never know what is possible until you welcome a conversation and take one step on a new path.

Gear, Food Choices, Responsibility and Independence

Unless something presents a clear health or safety risk, a significant impact on the group, or a risk to completing daily hiking distances — teens are generally allowed to make their own decisions about what they carry and learn through experience.

As part of normal guiding practice:

  • Backpacks may be weighed during the pre-hike briefing or on Day One
  • Overly heavy packs may be discussed to support safe decision-making and reduce injury risk

Multiday hiking involves finding a balance between responsible supervision and allowing teens the space to learn, adapt and grow — a balance that families, schools and Duke of Ed coordinators value highly.

Attendance at Pre-Hike Briefings

Attendance at both pre-hike group briefings is mandatory.
If a participant cannot attend a scheduled group briefing, a private pre-hike briefing must be booked to cover the same information.

Private briefings are charged at $70 per hour and may include other participants who also missed the group session.

Private Group and School Enquiries

Planning a private expedition for a school, youth group, or Duke of Ed cohort? LifeTrail has run private group expeditions for schools from Perth and interstate. Dates, routes, and group size are arranged directly with Didier.

LifeTrail welcomes enquiries from teachers, school coordinators, Duke of Ed Award leaders, and youth organisations across Australia who would enjoy a multiday hike on WA’s Bibbulmun Track

“Didier helped me and 7 of my girlfriends travel from Sydney to Perth, to complete a Duke Of Ed Gold Adventurous Journey 7 day hike, he cared for us every inch of the way, we had 3 local boys join us. This hike was one of the hardest things I have ever done mentally, emotionally and physically, however, it is something I will never forget.” – Alice (16)

“Didier has helped me to realise that no matter how difficult something may seem, I can always find a way to do it. Going hiking with them has also really helped me be more outgoing and make more friends, and the incredible feeling you get when you reach the top of a difficult peak is really unmatched.”
