LifeTrail celebrates inclusion and diversity; our teen hikes have been designed directly for all teens and Participants of the Duke Of Ed Gold Adventurous Journey. For more information, look here at the Duke Of Edinburgh International Award.

What You Will Gain

You will learn and experience independence, self-awareness, resilience and confidence like never before. You will be given opportunities to take self and group responsibilities suited to your goals and abilities. Our groups are encouraged to bond naturally without pressure, in their own time. Didier continually assesses everyone’s adventure progression on the trail to assist you in achieving your goals and having the most fantastic time. LifeTrail’s Hikefulness approach blends real adventure with mindful support, helping teens build confidence, resilience, independence and connection to everything through multi-day hiking. LifeTrail is recognised for offering hikers structured opportunities to prepare mentally, physically, emotionally, and practically — including equipment readiness — before and during their journey.

Across days on trail, participants develop:

  • Sustained focus and cognitive resilience under challenge
  • Calm decision-making in unfamiliar environments
  • Leadership and collaboration within a small expedition team
  • Practical independence through real responsibility
  • Stress regulation and recovery awareness

Stepping away from routine study, technology and online play can feel significant. Yet many find the skills developed on trail transfer directly back into school and sport — improving study habits, performance consistency, and confidence in communication.

Reflection & Integration

Following the hike, Didier personally reads each participant’s Duke of Edinburgh Award report. These reflections are often written weeks later, allowing time for genuine integration of the experience.
Common themes consistently emerge: improved mental wellbeing, stronger study habits, increased confidence in communication, meaningful new friendships, enhanced sports performance, and even healthier relationships at home.
What begins as a physical expedition often becomes a shift in perspective — a clearer understanding of capability, resilience and balance that supports success well beyond the trail.

The Journey Experience

Each day follows a steady and achievable rhythm. Mornings begin with breakfast and packing camp before setting off. The trail rises and falls gently through valleys, vast forest, scenic lookouts and creek crossings. Teens learn to manage their energy, encourage one another, and work as a team.

Guides provide steady support while allowing space for independence and personal growth. By afternoon, the group reaches a peaceful bush Bibbulmun Track campsite to set up tents, filter water, cook together, and unwind. Evenings bring meaningful conversations, quiet reflection, and the simple satisfaction of life outdoors. This journey is not about speed — it’s about learning to move confidently through nature, together. A secret to a more a enjoyable and achieveable multiday hike is lots of rest and sleep, so lights out at 7:30pm. How hiking helps you sleep.

The LifeTrail Teen Hike Standard

LifeTrail teen hikes are intentionally small with a 1:6 ratio, maximum 12, carefully planned expeditions personally guided by Didier Monot, founder of LifeTrail since 2017, long-distance Bibbulmun Track end-to-end hiker and 15 + years mentoring for youth experience.

Each journey involves extensive preparation, including two recognised extensive group hike plan video call sessions  — route design, campsite logistics, transport, permits, food planning, and risk management — allowing teens to experience real independence while still being supported by an experienced guide. Rather than large tour-style groups, LifeTrail hikes focus on creating a meaningful outdoor experience where teens build confidence, resilience, and teamwork through the challenge of a multi-day hike.

LifeTrail pricing reflects the level of preparation, professional responsibility, and personalised guidance required to deliver these safe and memorable wilderness journeys. Many teens arrive thinking it’s simply a hike. By the end, they realise it was an expedition that challenged them, strengthened them, and showed them what they are capable of.
