The LifeTrail Story
The times in my life when I’ve had the most joy have been when I trust my intuition and chosen path. Life seems to flow. The Didier Walks concept was born during my 2016 Bibbulmun Track end-to-end hike; the business began in June 2017 after being accepted into NEIS, a federal government startup program. In 2023, the Didier Walks name will be gone. A part of me is sad to let it go, but it feels right on both a personal and business level. Didier Walks has been me and is still very personal, not just a business. My daughter Kaitlyn, 14 at the time, designed the logo.
LifeTrail – Life develops constantly; enjoy the flow like a leaf on a gentle stream.
Didier Walks was affected by COVID-19, and I wasn’t sure how it would work. I relied on schools and families that were unsure how to handle the pandemic.
In the later months of 2021, I allowed myself to be open to a new income stream. I had already taken a few people with disabilities and mental health challenges through the NDIS. I created Naturbility, a program specifically to service this part of the community. I was marketing Naturibility on Facebook NDIS groups I was a member of.
In February 2022, I received a call from an NDIS Support Coordinator. They assist NDIS participants in managing their funding. It was quite a surprise and funny conversation. She told me that a former colleague from my beautiful days at Edge Employment Solutions had dobbed me in but said not to tell me who they were.
The Support Coordinator explained to me that she had someone who needed mentoring in employment and life transition, and she had been told to ask me because I once was “amazing” at it. I told her I was humbled but had not considered returning to this role I once loved; I asked her to give me a few days to think about it. I had put it into the universe to find another income stream, and here was an option. I phoned her back a few days later and said yes. The word got out, and within a month, I had three people I was mentoring and I loved it again, but this time, working for myself.
Didier Walks transformed the way I look at work.
The same Support Coordinator phoned me in March and asked me if I had a website, business cards and business name for the mentoring; people were confusing the mentoring and hiking. I had all these but for Didier Walks. In a week, I created Life Paths, its logo, and a simple one-page website. I had already built most of the Didier Walks website. With some beautiful support, this was almost easy. 90% of my organic mentoring business has arrived from reputation alone.
In July 2023, I discovered that an almost invisible and larger NDIS Support organisation already had Life Paths, so I had to find a new name. Didier Walks and Life Paths were already beginning to overlap, so LifeTrail was born. It has been offering NDIS Mentoring, Teen Hikes, the Duke Of Edinburgh International Award, and Adventurous Journeys since 2018.
